Sometimes you can get sticker shock looking at the prices on some of the Wii games on the market these days. Fifty buck is not a drop in the bucket when everyone's pinching pennies. If you're creative or know where to look, you can find cheap Wii games all over these days, either to buy or rent. Here are some ideas:
1. Look online for used games. Top selling or popular games will sell for less than new at retail, but usually are still high priced. For example, a popular $50 game may sell online for $35. Still, it's a big savings, and if you can avoid shipping, you're in luck. some of the places to look for used Wii games are eBay, Amazon.com, and Half.com (owned by eBay). You can probably skip the gaming stores like GameStop - they charge almost full price for used games. You'll save a lot more by going online.

2. Try renting Wii games online. GameFly is just one service that rents video games the same way that Netflix rents movies. You pay a monthly fee, and can keep the game as long as you want. Paying $10 or $15 a month for games is a lot cheaper than paying for several games a month, especially when they wind up being ignored after a couple weeks. Check also with your local video rental store, which might offer rentals of games too.
3. Check your local library. Given game prices, many libraries now lend video games, including games for Wii. While you might have to wait for games, or you might not have a big selection, it's still worth the price (free!).
4. Trade with friends. If you have friends who are gamers, or know other families who play Wii, try swapping games, or inviting everyone over for a game night where they can bring a new favorite.
5. Try WiiWare. If you have a wireless Internet connection in your home, you can download games right onto the Wii. There are now dozens of really fun games that can be downloaded for $10 or $15. You need a credit card or you can buy a WiiPoints card at stores like WalMart, Target and gaming stores.
6. Look in cutout bins for discounted new games. There are many games that are not as popular as others, but are still a lot of fun, especially for younger kids. Look for discounted games, under $20, at big box stores. With these ideas, you can definitely extend your game play for a lot less money than buying new games.
